One of the great things about home accessories is that you can experiment with ease and it will not cost you a fortune. If that bright coloured cushion does not work in your bedroom, move it to the kids room. If you are bored of your furniture, re-paint it or update it with some new doorknobs. There are no rights or wrongs and by playing around you will make it work and more importantly have some fun. Even little things like hanging new tea towels in the kitchen of displaying some pretty mugs on your shelves make a difference. Just like a fabulous bag or shoes can make an outfit, home accessories can do the same for your home.
It’s true, fun table accessories are always key for a fabulous looking party table. There is no need to spend a lot of money on decorations. Decorate with pretty napkins, cute cutlery and throw a handful of colourful confetti over the table. Et voila! The table is set and the fun can start!
“I must have flowers, always, and always.” Seeing the beautiful floral display from Wild at Heart at Liberty , we could not help but think of this quote by Claude Monet.
All that glitters is not gold, but gold happens to be our absolute favourite at the moment. To say that we have a bit of an obsession would be an understatement. Gold is perfect for accessorising as it adds instant glamour and that can only be a good thing.
Did you make any New Year’s resolutions and are you managing to keep to them? We decided to keep it simple this year. Our New Year’s resolution is to enjoy and embrace today!
The battle to be the champion of The Great British Bake Off 2013 is in full swing; it’s the half way stage in the competition and we are enjoying every minute! Watch the amateurs as they fight it out through tricky technical bakes and spectacular show stoppers – it’s always a great inspiration to get creative in the kitchen and cook up some tasty treats for yourself. For a classy finishing touch, display your creations on our Belle cake stand. We’re sure Mary Berry and Mr Hollywood would approve.
Our bestselling Miss Darcy teacups and saucers are super popular with stylists. They are used as props in magazine and book photo shoots. You can see their latest cameo appearance in the Rimmel London campaign here.
“And so with the sunshine and the great burst of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer! The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzerald
It’s hard to know where to start when talking about Thailand, which (India aside) could definitely be the Bombay Duck spiritual home. We have just returned from a trip to visit our lovely manufacturers and start developments for our exciting new collections – watch this space!
To start with the taxis and even the buses are PINK! In fact, we would go as far as to say they are Bombay Duck pink (Pantone 225 to be precise). Thailand is a country with a smiley disposition, much like the Bombay Duck team and products and their cheeriness is infectious.
We witnessed the New Year celebrations on our recent visit, where the custom is to throw water on each other, one huge water fight, what fun!
The food is delicious. From lemongrass and coconut flavours to sweet mangoes and pineapple. The street food is fresh and yummy.
Of course Bangkok is also a shoppers paradise, a serious pastime for the Bombay Duck buying team (it’s work of course!) Bangkok has so many unique boutiques full of treasures. We love It Happened To Be A Closet near Siam Paragon as well as the gorgeous collections from Ginger. The famous weekend market is also great for finding all sorts of things that you didn’t know that you needed.
Oh and it’s hot and sunny. What reason is there not to love Thailand! We hope to be back soon!
We love Hong Kong! It is a real city with lots of energy. We were visiting our manufacturers to check out the new developments we have been working on. In between meetings and showroom visits, we explored and shopped. The shops in Hong Kong are like Aladdin’s cave. You never know what you find and you can find some real gems. The highlight of the trip was taking the Star ferry across the water at dusk and watching the city lights light up. As we departed Hong Kong for Shanghai, we were already looking forward to our next visit.
Our sparkly faceted doorknobs are in the March issue of Ideal Home magazine. Bored with your furniture? Bling it up with our bright and colourful doorknobs.
Check out our aluminium, mango and white wood letters in the February issue of Ideal Home magazine. Such a brilliant idea!
Shopping at Liberty is always a treat. We love the beautiful flower display by Wild at Heart at the entrance. It smells amazing too!
This is one of our favourite movie scenes and SO Bombay Duck – Enjoy!
Oh, how we wish we could be in India next week. Our manufacturers will be celebrating Diwali, or Dipavali – the Hindu Festival of Lights. The name means literally ‘rows of lights’. According to legend, when Rama returned home from 14 years’ exile, having conquered the demon King Ravana, the people of Ayodhya lit the way for him with rows (avali) of clay oil lamps with string wicks (dipa). Also observed by Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains, Diwali is actually a five-day festival, including a spectacular day of fireworks, lamps and candles that represent the triumph of good (light) over evil (darkness). Rituals vary, but many people wear new clothes, share sweets and snacks, give presents and decorate their front doorsteps with brightly coloured sand.
Posters and prints with interesting typography are an easy and relatively inexpensive way to update your walls. We love love love our latest find, the Holstee manifesto from Holstee a printing company based in North Carolina.
In Bombay Duck we love spots! Small spots, large spots, colourfull spots we love them all. Spots are fun and cheerful! We have spots on our products, our boxes and even on the walls of our office. We are loving the latest Luis Vuitton collaboration with the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Check out the spotty bags, shoes and dresses. J’adore!
“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
We are proud to be Londoners at the best of times but last Friday we were bursting with pride. The city was alive with people getting together with friends to have a party and watch the Olympics opening ceremony. And what a fantastic opening ceremony that was! Our favourite part? The Queen being escorted by James Bond.
The makers of BBC2′s The Great British Bake Off are working on new series on sewing. We better start practising!
We were squeeling with delight when the June issue of Ideal Home magazine arrived this morning. Our Vintage Tea Party and Miss Darcy tea sets made it on the cover. Look at all that gorgeousness!
We are so excited that our super stylish humbug knob has been featured in none other than the amazing VOGUE this month! Click here to see the lovely black and white stripy knob on our website. We are off to celebrate and drink champagne…x
What better way to spend a frosty Saturday morning than going through he latest designs from the fantastic Button Girl. We are so excited to be putting together this new range of products with her, she’s so wonderfully creative and every piece is handmade.
Delilah (19m) seems to be enjoying helping me out choosing the best designs:
